Toyota Origin
Toyota announced the Origin on July 28, 2000 and began Japanese sales on November 1. This page follows its only production grade: the GF-JCG17-BEPXF rear-drive sedan with a 2,997 cc 2JZ-GE inline-six and ECT-iE four-speed automatic.

More than a set of wheels.
The Origin marked Toyota's 100 millionth vehicle produced in Japan by wrapping then-current engineering in a shape inspired by the first-generation Crown. Selected Century-line craftspeople fitted difficult panels, smoothed body joints, polished the complete painted surface and paid close attention to leather stitching and wood selection. Toyota planned to offer about 1,000 cars; that launch target is not silently converted here into an exact final-production claim.
Look a little closer.
The Origin deliberately looked backward and forward at the same time. Its rounded lamps, tall grille, rear-hinged rear doors and wraparound back glass echoed Toyota's first Crown, while VSC, radar cruise control and navigation-linked shift logic belonged to the year 2000. The cover proves the GF-JCG17 exterior family, not a hidden engine, gearbox or exact build date.

Built as a commemorative object
Toyota did more than draw a retro body. Century-line craftspeople hand-fitted difficult exterior sections, joined panels to erase seams, polished the complete painted surface and inspected each body. Leather stitching and real-wood selection received the same attention, making the manufacturing process part of the tribute.

Beneath the first-Crown-inspired body, the Origin used a rear-drive platform, VSC, traction control, multiple airbags and radar cruise control. Toyota also offered navigation-linked shift control that could recognize an approaching corner and select a lower gear with braking—a striking contrast to the 1950s visual theme.
