Research pending

A matching completed auction sale has not been verified for this exact year, body, trim, engine, transmission and market.

Joyride shows this gap instead of substituting an asking price, unsold bid or mismatched special vehicle.

A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

The original Mustang offered buyers different bodies, engines, and options. Six-cylinder and V8 versions made the family quite varied. A model name alone is not enough to identify a car’s exact performance—its year, engine, and trim matter too.

Look a little closer.

Two Mustangs built in the same year can have different engines. Always check the version before comparing specifications.

Photos show an example of the model or generation. The pictured vehicle’s year, equipment, or modifications can differ from the specification described here.

Why the dashboard matters

A 1965 Mustang does not have one universal instrument panel. Ford’s period advertising identifies a five-dial cluster as GT equipment and specifically calls out its ammeter and oil-pressure gauge. The separately advertised luxury interior adds a wood-grained instrument-panel finish. A dashboard photograph can therefore tell us about equipment, but a restored car’s visible parts alone do not establish its original factory specification.

A package, not a separate body

Ford offered the GT package on the hardtop, convertible and 2+2 fastback. The advertisement lists a 225-hp, four-barrel 289 V8 with a three-speed manual, front disc brakes, fog lamps, special handling equipment and dual exhaust. It also offers a 271-hp engine with a four-speed gearbox. These are period advertised ratings and equipment combinations, not a single specification for every 1965 Mustang. An optional Rally-Pac paired a tachometer with a clock.
