Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 Série 200

It wore a 205 face, but behind the seats sat a turbo engine and beneath the floor a four-wheel-drive system built to unlock Group B rallying.

Research pending

A matching completed auction sale has not been verified for this exact year, body, trim, engine, transmission and market.

Joyride shows this gap instead of substituting an asking price, unsold bid or mismatched special vehicle.

A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

Jean Todt's Peugeot Talbot Sport team designed the T16 around Group B rules, not around the ordinary front-engine, front-wheel-drive 205. To qualify, Peugeot first had to build 200 road-legal cars. The Série 200 put its 1.8-litre turbocharged 16-valve four-cylinder behind the seats and drove all four wheels with a calmer 200 hp road tune. FISA homologated the model as Group B number 262 on 2 April 1984; the competition descendants then won the 1985 and 1986 World Rally Championship titles.

Look a little closer.

The huge rear body section lifts up to expose the engine—closer to opening a race-car shell than an ordinary hatchback boot.

Why exactly 200 road cars mattered

Peugeot's current heritage release explains that Group B admission required 200 road-legal units. The road T16 is therefore not a softened GTI: it is the production proof behind the rally programme, with four-wheel drive, a mid-rear 1.8-litre turbo 16-valve engine and 200 hp.

Road output is not rally output

Peugeot quotes 200 CV for the series road car and more than 450 CV for the final Evo 2 racers; another official release mentions a dealer competition kit raising a road car toward 300 hp. This page stays at the as-produced 200 hp state. Mixing in Evo power would describe a different machine and test condition.
