Škoda 110 R Coupé
A low, rear-engined coupé turned Škoda's family-car hardware into a snowy-slope climber and a foundation for famous racers.

More than a set of wheels.
Škoda began developing the 110 R in 1966 from the 100/110 saloon family, then gave the coupé a steeper windscreen, frameless side glass and a completely different tail. It debuted at Brno on 5 September 1970 and attracted export demand far beyond planned supply. Its aluminium-rich engine, twin carburettors and rear weight bias gave the everyday coupé useful speed and traction, while competition derivatives later carried the basic idea into rallying and circuit racing.

Its wood-effect dashboard carried five round instruments, including oil-pressure and coolant-temperature gauges—not just a speedometer and fuel gauge.

The launch car changed during its life
Early cars had two headlamps and 14-inch wheels. Later updates added four lamps, a front spoiler, headrests and 13-inch wheels. That means a generic 110 R image is useful only when its visual era is labelled.

The 110 R was not itself a 130 RS. It supplied the body idea and engineering base for 180 RS, 200 RS and 130 RS competition cars; the much-modified 130 RS later won its European touring-car category and Monte Carlo rally classes.
