Wilbur Shaw did not own this Maserati. He was the driver who made serial 3032 the only individual car to win the Indianapolis 500 in both 1939 and 1940. Maserati records the two victories; the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum identifies its survivor as the winning Boyle Special; and the National Historic Vehicle Register binds the story to serial 3032, register no. 3 and HAER IN-112.

The car’s history did not stop at the two wins. A wheel failure sent Shaw into the wall in 1941. The repaired 8CTF returned after the war with other drivers, remained in Indianapolis competition through the early 1950s, and was later restored to its 1940 maroon livery. That restored appearance is what the current museum photograph shows; Joyride does not present every visible finish or minor component as untouched 1940 material.

The Hagerty Drivers Foundation record reviewed October 5, 2026 lists the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum as the present owner and says the car is used for display and limited exhibition. That custody record is not recast as Shaw ownership. One serial-numbered racing car also cannot establish complete 8CTF family coverage, a road-car equivalent or a compatible Joyride driving model.
