A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

Daihatsu completely redesigned the Charade in January 1987. The European GTti was the tiny performance version: a three-door G100 hatch with fuel injection, twin overhead camshafts, twelve valves, a turbocharger and an intercooler. Its 993 cc engine made 101 PS DIN, an extraordinary figure for a one-litre road car in 1988. The light body and five-speed manual turned that engineering into a properly quick hot hatch.

Look a little closer.

The FIA listed the 993 cc three-door G100S from January 1988, giving the little Charade an official doorway into international rally categories.

European and Japanese numbers are not interchangeable

The European-export GTti is catalogued at 74 kW/101 PS DIN. The Japanese-market car is commonly listed at 77 kW/105 PS JIS net. Joyride keeps the European 101 PS figure because this profile names the European variant rather than picking the larger number.

A road car with a verified competition identity

The FIA historic database records the Charade three-door G100S and its January 1988 homologation. Homologation does not mean every road GTti was a rally car, but it confirms the body family and engine-capacity class from an independent governing archive.

A turbo lamp, not a boost-pressure dial

Daihatsu Holland's archived equipment table lists a rev counter, trip counter, digital clock, coolant-temperature and fuel gauges for the GTti, plus a turbo indicator lamp and an engine-control warning lamp. The turbo lamp is not evidence of a graduated boost-pressure gauge. Sports seats and a sports steering wheel distinguish the GTti column, but the brochure's cabin photograph is explicitly labelled TX. This undated Dutch-market brochure supports a regional equipment comparison, not proof that every 1988 European GTti or the car in a representative photograph has identical instruments.
