Toyota Altezza RS200 6M/T
Toyota released the Altezza in Japan on October 30, 1998 as a compact rear-wheel-drive sports sedan. This page follows the launch RS200 six-speed manual, model GF-SXE10-AEFVF, with the high-revving 3S-GE four-cylinder—not the 200 PS automatic RS200 or the 160 PS inline-six AS200.

More than a set of wheels.
Toyota shortened the related Progrès platform's wheelbase by 110 mm, widened the front and rear tracks and moved heavy parts such as the battery and fuel tank toward the center. The result revived a style of Japanese rear-wheel-drive sports sedan that Toyota described as dormant at the time. The Altezza won the 1998–1999 Car of the Year Japan award.
Look a little closer.
The transmission changes the engine story. Toyota rated the six-speed manual RS200 at 210 PS, but the five-speed automatic RS200 at 200 PS and a lower engine speed. Sharing the same badge does not make those two factory tunes interchangeable.

A platform reshaped around response
Toyota did not simply put a sport badge on the Progrès platform. It shortened the wheelbase by 110 mm, widened the front track by 20 mm and the rear track by 25 mm, then centralized heavy components. Those changes reduced the amount of mass concentrated at the ends and helped the Altezza respond more sharply to steering inputs.

The launch table separates three cars that share the body: a 210 PS RS200 six-speed manual, a 200 PS RS200 five-speed automatic and a 160 PS AS200 four-speed automatic with an inline-six. Engine architecture, output and transmission identity are therefore essential parts of this profile rather than optional details.
