A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

Toyota launched the IMV-series Kijang Innova in Indonesia on 1 September 2004 and began production at Karawang the same day. It was both a new member of Toyota's international IMV program and the next generation of the Indonesian Kijang line first produced in 1977. The 2.0 G occupied the middle of the E/G/V passenger-grade range and was sold with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.

Look a little closer.

The Innova name came from innovation, while Kijang carried an Indonesian Toyota lineage that began in 1977.

Photos show an example of the model or generation. The pictured vehicle’s year, equipment, or modifications can differ from the specification described here.

Kijang continuity inside the IMV program

Toyota presented the Innova both as an IMV vehicle and as the next Kijang generation. IMV supplied a broader international engineering and production program, while the Kijang name connected the new seven-seater to an Indonesian line dating to 1977. The Indonesian badge is local identity, not merely a translation of a generic Innova.

The 2.0 G's practical middle position

G sat between E and V and offered a choice of manual or automatic transmission with the 1TR-FE petrol engine. VVT-i adjusted valve timing to help a 2.0-litre engine serve a seven-seat vehicle across everyday speeds. This middle-grade position is why the gearbox remains open: 2.0 G alone does not tell us whether one car has three pedals or an automatic selector.
