A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

Mazda unveiled RX-VISION at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show as a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports-car concept. The company named its proposed next-generation rotary engine SKYACTIV-R, but did not announce rotor count, displacement, output or a production program.

Look a little closer.

RX-VISION won the 2015 Most Beautiful Concept Car award at the 2016 Festival Automobile International.

Photos show an example of the model or generation. The pictured vehicle’s year, equipment, or modifications can differ from the specification described here.

A promise expressed through proportion

RX-VISION uses a low roof, long nose and rear-drive stance to make Mazda’s rotary ambition emotionally legible before the company had production hardware to disclose. The body is evidence of intent, not proof of an approved successor to the RX-7 or RX-8.

SKYACTIV-R is a name, not a specification

Mazda confirmed continued rotary development and supplied a program name, but stopped short of giving rotor count, displacement or output. The later RX-VISION GT3 Concept is a separately developed digital race derivative and cannot fill those gaps for the 2015 physical exhibit.
