Aptera Launch Edition validation prototype
Aptera's slippery three-wheeler tries to use so little energy that sunlight on its body can add useful driving range.

More than a set of wheels.
Aptera announced the Launch Edition in January 2023 with a funding-dependent production goal. The design kept evolving: a 2024 production-intent test vehicle used an in-board EMR3 drive, and the company's March 2026 annual filing said validation vehicles were being assembled for durability, crash and certification work. This profile is therefore a 2026 validation-stage machine, not a customer production car.
Look a little closer.
The body narrows into a teardrop tail, leaving one rear wheel and the two front wheels in separate aerodynamic covers.

The Launch Edition changed after its announcement
The January 2023 announcement described the intended first series, but Aptera later adopted an in-board supplier drivetrain and began testing a production-intent vehicle. The 2026 filing says the company is using supplier sub-assemblies and still assembling validation vehicles. That is why the profile does not backdate an old prototype's motor layout into the current target.

Aptera targets roughly 700 watts of embedded solar and up to 40 solar miles per day in optimal conditions. Weather, season, latitude, parking direction and daily energy use all change the result. The solar figure describes the best-case contribution; the battery and plug remain part of the design.
