A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

Alfa Romeo previewed the 8C as a concept at Frankfurt in 2003, approved production in early 2006 and unveiled the definitive car at the 2006 Paris Motor Show. About 1,400 orders arrived within weeks for only 500 numbered coupés. Production cars used a 4.7-litre V8, rear six-speed automated gearbox and carbon-fibre body panels. The 8C's name linked the car to Vittorio Jano's eight-cylinder racers, while “Competizione” recalled the 6C 2500 Competizione driven by Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1950 Mille Miglia.

Look a little closer.

Alfa Romeo received about 1,400 orders in a few weeks for a run of only 500 numbered coupés, so the whole series was spoken for before production began.

Eight months from approval to production design

The 2003 concept generated attention but was not itself the customer car. After production approval in early 2006, Alfa Romeo's design and engineering teams reworked the project in eight months for the definitive Paris show version. That distinction matters because concept performance and transmission claims do not automatically describe the 2007 production coupé.

A halo car that reset the design language

The 8C was deliberately more than a tiny collector run. Alfa Romeo describes it as a reference point for later high-volume cars including MiTo and Giulietta. Its simple body volumes, round rear lamps and shield grille became a bridge between historic cues and a new family identity, while the rear-drive transaxle revived a layout absent from Alfa road cars since the early 1990s.
