More than a set of wheels.
BMW moved motorcycle production from Munich to Berlin in 1969 and began the new /5 series there in September. The R 60/5 sat between the 500 and 750 models. Demand for the larger /5 machines beat expectations, while police service gave the white R 60/5 the nickname Weiße Maus—White Mouse.
Look a little closer.
German police nicknamed the white R 60/5 the 'White Mouse.'

A new factory and a new mechanical package
The move to Berlin coincided with a major redesign. BMW's history lists a lighter double-loop frame, telescopic fork, plain-bearing crankshaft and connecting rods, alternator, battery ignition and electric starter. The R 60/5 was therefore more than an old model assembled in a new city.

BMW describes the R 60/5 as the balanced middle of the /5 range, joining useful road performance to a lower price than the 750. Its acceptance by demanding public agencies reinforces that positioning: it was neither the smallest economy choice nor the flagship, but a practical all-rounder.
