A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

Fiat introduced the 130 Berlina in 1969 as its new flagship. The first series used a 2.8-litre V6 developed under Aurelio Lampredi and a chassis programme led under Dante Giacosa. Buyers could specify a five-speed manual or a three-speed automatic; this page follows the 140 PS manual launch car and does not borrow the later 3.2-litre engine or the separate Pininfarina-styled coupé.

Look a little closer.

The sedan and the later 130 Coupé look related underneath, but they do not share the same body design: the 1969 Berlina was created inside Fiat, while Pininfarina shaped the coupé.

Choose one gearbox before quoting performance

The first 130 could be ordered with a five-speed manual or a three-speed Borg-Warner automatic. Joyride uses the manual's 140 PS and 216 N·m specification here rather than mixing its performance with the automatic version.

The later 3.2 is a different stage

Fiat enlarged and strengthened the engine for the updated 130, but the launch Berlina carried the 2,866 cc unit. Keeping the original 1969 specification separate prevents later power figures and styling details from drifting backward.
