Honda Civic Type R

The 2015 FK2 changed the Civic Type R recipe by adding a turbocharger for the first time. It remained a front-wheel-drive hatchback with a manual gearbox, but its huge rear wing, flat underbody pieces and carefully shaped vents were engineered to manage air as well as to look dramatic.

Research pending

A matching completed auction sale has not been verified for this exact year, body, trim, engine, transmission and market.

Joyride shows this gap instead of substituting an asking price, unsold bid or mismatched special vehicle.

A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

Honda revealed the production FK2 at the 2015 Geneva show and put it on sale across Europe in July. Its new 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo made 310 PS, while a six-speed manual and limited-slip differential helped the front tyres share that power. The FK2 was a short-lived bridge between the earlier high-revving naturally aspirated Type Rs and the later FK8, and it established the turbocharged K20C1 era.

Look a little closer.

The red +R button sharpened engine response, reduced steering assistance and made the adaptive dampers firmer; it did not add extra peak horsepower.

Airflow that does a job

The FK2's wing, deep front bumper, flat underside and rear diffuser were not loose decorations. Honda used wind-tunnel development to balance drag with high-speed stability, and the widened front arches included vents to release pressure around the wheels.

A record with an important footnote

Honda's 7:50.63 Nürburgring time belonged to a pre-production development car, not an independently timed showroom example. Honda said its engine tune and key dynamic parts matched production, while removed cabin equipment offset the safety cage's weight. That makes the lap significant development evidence, but it must always be labelled as a development-car run.
