A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

Hyundai showed the Pony project at Turin in 1974, but the production four-door did not go on sale until December 1975. Designer Giorgetto Giugiaro shaped the crisp body, while Hyundai assembled an international engineering team and used a Mitsubishi-derived powertrain. The result was the first independently developed Korean production car and the starting point for Hyundai's own model family.

Look a little closer.

The Pony's family grew one body style at a time: four-door, pickup, wagon and finally a three-door hatchback.

Concept in 1974, production in 1975

The Pony sedan and dramatic Pony Coupe concept appeared at the 1974 Turin Motor Show. Hyundai's own model history dates the production four-door release to December 1975, so Joyride labels the road car honestly.

A national industrial milestone

The Pony combined styling by Giorgetto Giugiaro with engineering support from an international team. It gave Hyundai experience designing, building and exporting a complete model under its own name.
