More than a set of wheels.
Perodua launched its first car, the Kancil, on August 29, 1994. The little five-door was based on the L200 Daihatsu Mira and aimed at first-time buyers. This profile follows the basic 660 EX with a four-speed manual—not the five-speed GX, later 850, automatic or facelifted models.
Look a little closer.
Kancil is the Malay name for the tiny mouse-deer, a clever little animal in many local folk tales.

The launch choices were easy to understand
The original 660 EX used a four-speed manual, while the better-equipped 660 GX used five speeds. Keeping those launch trims separate matters because later Kancils gained 850 cc engines, automatics and several facelifts.

Perodua's own milestone record calls the Kancil its first car. The launch speech described it as a small, affordable step into car ownership, while warning that the new company still had to improve manufacturing efficiency and learn more technology.
