More than a set of wheels.
Peugeot launched the 305 in Europe in 1977 as the 304's successor, initially offering GL, GR and SR versions. The saloon combined a familiar three-box shape with a transverse engine, front-wheel drive and independent suspension at all four wheels. The GR's exact 1.3-litre/four-speed pairing is supported by the secondary trim-specific catalogue and must not be merged with the launch SR's larger engine or later facelift cars.
Look a little closer.
Its familiar three-box shape hid a transverse engine and independent suspension at all four wheels.

Major packaging change in a familiar shape
The 305 looked like a conventional family saloon, yet its transverse engine and front-drive package concentrated machinery at the nose. Peugeot could improve passenger space and road manners without making the exterior look experimental.

The clean identity is November-1977 Europe, GR trim, 1,290 cc engine and four-speed manual. Later engines, diesels and facelift bodies are separate identities; combining them would turn a source-backed profile into a generic 305 page.
