Peugeot 504 Berline
The 504 mixed a calm family-saloon shape with all-independent suspension and four disc brakes—serious engineering hidden under elegant lines.

More than a set of wheels.
Peugeot planned the 504 for spring 1968, but France's social crisis delayed its unveiling until September, just before the Paris show. The launch Berline was larger and more powerful than the 404 and paired rear-wheel drive with independent suspension at all four wheels, a first for a Peugeot production rear-driver. Pininfarina shaped the side and distinctive bent boot line, while Peugeot's own studio created the trapezoidal-eyed nose. The 504 won the 1969 European Car of the Year title and later became a long-lived world car.
Look a little closer.
When Sergio Pininfarina saw Peugeot's trapezoidal headlamp design, Peugeot says he compared the car's gaze to Sophia Loren's eyes.

A delayed launch, not a different model year
The museum history says the 504 had been scheduled for spring 1968 but was delayed by the social crisis. Peugeot finally revealed it in September on the eve of the Paris Motor Show. This profile therefore keeps 1968 as the launch year while recording why contemporary dates cluster in autumn.

Peugeot's retrospective lists 60 kW (82 PS) for the first 1.8-litre petrol engine and 71 kW (97 PS) for the mechanically injected version. This page fixes the ordinary carburetted manual Berline, so the stronger Injection figure is shown only as a boundary, not used as the car's output.
