A matching completed auction sale has not been verified for this exact year, body, trim, engine, transmission and market.
Joyride shows this gap instead of substituting an asking price, unsold bid or mismatched special vehicle.
More than a set of wheels.
Porsche showed its new sports car as the 901 before it became the 911. Production began in 1964. A six-cylinder engine replaced the four-cylinder design of its predecessor, the 356. Many versions followed, but the early car established the familiar shape.
Look a little closer.
The earliest 911 was called the 901. Porsche changed the name shortly after production started.

A surviving 1964 reference
Porsche’s museum preserves chassis number 57, a signal-red 1964 car built as a 901 and delivered as a 911. Its specification gives the engine’s exact displacement as 1,991 cc. The museum restored its body, engine, transmission and interior over three years. That documented early car is a stronger reference for the first production model than a later 911 carrying the same familiar silhouette.

During the museum restoration, an unusual ashtray mattered: its rectangular cigar opening belonged to the 1964 design and disappeared the following year. Craftspeople reconstructed missing parts using surviving pieces as references. This illustrates why a broad “classic 911” cabin photograph is useful but cannot prove every detail of a 1964 interior. The gallery’s later-year photographs retain their own labels.
