A matching completed auction sale has not been verified for this exact year, body, trim, engine, transmission and market.
Joyride shows this gap instead of substituting an asking price, unsold bid or mismatched special vehicle.
More than a set of wheels.
Saab introduced the 9000 to the press at Kolmården Game Park on 24 May 1984, then began producing the 1985 model that autumn. Every launch-year 9000 used a turbocharged 2.0-litre 16-valve engine. The engine sat across the nose rather than lengthwise like the classic 900's, helping create a wide cabin and large rear hatch while preserving front-wheel drive.
Look a little closer.
The U.S. government later classified the roomy 9000 as a large car, even though many European buyers saw it as a sleek hatchback.

The model-year date starts before the calendar year
The press introduction happened in May 1984 and production started in autumn 1984, but Saab called the first customer cars 1985 models. This profile therefore uses 1985 while preserving the earlier calendar dates instead of treating them as a contradiction.

Moving the engine sideways separated the 9000 from Saab's lengthwise-engine 900. A 2.67 m wheelbase and five-door hatch created useful passenger and cargo room, while turbocharging let a two-litre engine deliver executive-car performance without a larger six-cylinder unit.
