A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

The Brasília arrived in June 1973 and was named after Brazil’s capital. Brazilian engineers and technicians developed the car, with styling by Marcio Piancastelli. This 1974 profile follows the early 60 cv version; the 65 cv twin-carburetor update belongs to 1975.

Look a little closer.

The designers used a human-sized dummy representing an average Brazilian to help establish the car’s dimensions.

Room for the trip

Volkswagen describes a 135-litre front luggage compartment and rear cargo space that could expand to 970 litres. The tall, practical body and large glass area were central to the car’s appeal.

A new shape around familiar ideas

The project grew from Volkswagen’s existing 1600 mechanical platform. The manufacturer highlights the padded dashboard, front disc brakes and special front-hood latch among its original features. This is historical equipment information, not a modern crash rating.
