A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

Toyota unveiled the red FT-1 at Detroit on January 13, 2014. Calty created its long-hood proportions, deep openings and driver-focused cockpit. A Gran Turismo-assisted internal presentation helped the physical concept win approval, but the design was Calty’s work and the show car did not disclose production engine specifications.

Look a little closer.

FT means Future Toyota; Toyota said the numeral 1 expressed the ultimate sports-car design.

A digital pitch became a physical design argument

FT-1 matters less as a hidden Supra specification sheet than as evidence of how Calty sold a bolder design direction inside Toyota. The virtual model helped decision-makers experience stance and motion, while the Detroit artifact translated that pitch into real surfaces, cooling paths and a deployable wing.

The blank engine bay must stay blank

The transparent hood invites speculation, but Toyota deliberately covered an unspecified powerplant. Treating later Supra hardware, game statistics or enthusiast guesses as FT-1 facts would collapse three different identities. This profile therefore describes the verified layout and cockpit while leaving output and performance unset.
