Fiat Multipla 100 16V

Fiat made a car shorter than four metres but wide enough for three people in front and three more behind—all in full-size individual seats.

A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

The first modern Multipla reached Italian buyers in late 1998. Designer Roberto Giolito's team started with the people rather than a familiar minivan outline: six equal seats in two rows, useful luggage space and a body only 3.99 metres long. The 100 16V was the conventional petrol model; Fiat also created JTD diesel, methane-only Blupower and petrol/methane Bipower versions that need their own facts.

Look a little closer.

The Museum of Modern Art displayed the Multipla in its 1999 'Different Roads' exhibition about cars for the next century.

Six equal seats, not two benches

Fiat described six individual seats of equal size, comfort and dignity. Putting three in each of two rows keeps families together and leaves a proper luggage area, instead of stretching the car to fit a third row.

Four engines with different jobs

At launch the ordinary petrol 1.6 Torque 16V sat beside a 1.9 JTD diesel, methane-only Blupower and dual-fuel Bipower. The alternative-fuel cars are an important part of the Multipla story, but their tanks, outputs and fuel use cannot be copied onto this plain 100 16V petrol profile.
