Ford Fiesta 1.25 Ghia

The rounded 1995 Fiesta looked new outside and introduced Ford's compact Zetec-SE engine family. In 1.25 Ghia form it paired the smallest new 16-valve engine with the range's comfort-focused trim and a conventional five-speed manual.

A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

Ford introduced the 1.25-litre Zetec-SE for Ghia and Si in July 1995 as the redesigned Fiesta arrived. The 1,242 cc engine used two overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder to breathe efficiently without needing a turbo. The older Fiesta remained briefly as Fiesta Classic, so a 1995 registration alone does not prove which body generation a photographed car belongs to.

Look a little closer.

Some European catalogues rounded the 1,242 cc engine's badge to 1.3 even though Ford and technical data identify it as the 1.25 Zetec-SE.

Small engine, expensive-engine ideas

Twin cams, sixteen valves and multi-point injection were features buyers associated with larger or sportier cars. Ford packaged them into a 1.25-litre city hatchback to improve smoothness and breathing rather than to chase an extreme power number.

Why 1995 needs a body check

The outgoing model continued for a time as Fiesta Classic while the rounder replacement entered the range. A date or registration plate cannot establish the generation; the body and engine combination have to agree with the profile.
