Lada Granta sedan Standard 1.6

The first Granta was a simple Russian family sedan built from the Kalina platform, with a big boot, a familiar eight-valve engine and a very low starting price.

A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

AvtoVAZ began series production at Tolyatti on 29 November 2011 and dealer sales across Russia on 22 December. The launch mix included Standard and better-equipped Norma cars; this profile keeps to the least expensive Standard. AvtoVAZ said the Granta used the Kalina platform but added about 400 newly developed components, including revised suspension pieces and an engine for higher grades.

Look a little closer.

At launch the Standard cost 229,000 rubles, while AvtoVAZ planned about 20 percent of early production in that cheapest grade and 80 percent as Norma.

Photos show an example of the model or generation. The pictured vehicle’s year, equipment, or modifications can differ from the specification described here.

One body, two launch personalities

The first commercial Granta was a Norma, and most early production was planned in that grade. The Standard was deliberately plainer and paired with the older VAZ-11183 engine. Separating them matters because power ratings, wheel sizes, steering assistance and safety equipment can change with grade.

New parts on a familiar foundation

Using the Kalina platform shortened development and kept repair knowledge familiar, but the Granta was not merely a Kalina with a boot. AvtoVAZ reported roughly 400 original components and revised front and rear suspension, while the long rear overhang created a large luggage compartment for family use.
