Mahindra Scorpio CRDe

The 2005 CRDe update replaced the original diesel's older injection hardware with electronically controlled common rail, giving the home-grown Scorpio 115 bhp and a broad low-speed torque band.

A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

Mahindra describes Scorpio as the first Indian brand in its class to offer CRDe technology. The 2005 version is important because it is the engine step between the 2002 launch vehicle and the visibly revised 'All New Scorpio' of March 2006; those later tail lamps and suspension changes must not be backdated.

Look a little closer.

Mahindra's name CRDe expands the familiar common-rail idea with the company's own final letter: common-rail diesel engine.

Photos show an example of the model or generation. The pictured vehicle’s year, equipment, or modifications can differ from the specification described here.

Common rail changed how the diesel delivered its effort

The earlier Scorpio diesel used older injection technology. CRDe introduced an electronically managed high-pressure fuel rail, which allowed more precise injections and helped produce 115 bhp while concentrating the useful 28.3 kg·m torque between 1,700 and 2,200 rpm.

The 2006-looking Scorpio is a different checkpoint

Mahindra's March 2006 release lists 40 changes and a new five-point multi-link rear suspension. A tall-tail-lamp 2006 survivor therefore illustrates the same first-generation family but cannot prove the exterior or rear suspension of the 2005 CRDe.

Why the engine source needs a scope note

Mahindra's 2007 Getaway release gives factory figures for the same 2,609 cm³ CRDe engine family. It is strong evidence for displacement and ratings, but it describes the pickup derivative; body, mass and seating facts are not carried back from it to this SUV.
