A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

The 206 arrived in September 1998 as the successor to Peugeot's long-lived 205. Peugeot's heritage material calls it the company's first model designed entirely by computer, while its familiar small-hatch layout kept it easy to park and useful for families. This profile fixes the identity to an early European five-door with the 1.4-litre petrol engine and manual gearbox; trim names and standard equipment differed across national price lists, so later airbag, electronics and special-edition equipment must not be backdated.

Look a little closer.

Peugeot says more than 7.3 million 206s were produced, making the little hatchback one of the brand's biggest production stories.

A small car drawn with a new digital toolbox

Peugeot describes the 206 as its first car designed completely on computers. Digital design did not decide the personality by itself, but it let engineers coordinate the curved body, packaging and manufacturing before physical cars reached the line.

The trim badge needs a country label

The same 1.4-litre five-door mechanical package appeared under XR, XR Présence and equivalent local names. Treating those labels as universal would mix different equipment lists, so this entry records the European mechanical identity and leaves country-specific options out.
