Joyride shows this gap instead of substituting an asking price, unsold bid or mismatched special vehicle.
More than a set of wheels.
Introduced on 21 May 1993, the Wira expanded Proton beyond the Saga. It used fourth-generation Mitsubishi Lancer/Mirage foundations, but Proton reshaped the nose, dashboard and lighting mix. The 1.5 GL carried over the proven 4G15 engine and offered both manual and simple three-speed automatic choices.
Look a little closer.
Wira means 'hero' in Malay, a fitting name for a sedan Proton says sold 952,216 units domestically over its life.

Shared engineering did not mean a simple badge swap
The Wira's basic architecture and engines came through Proton's Mitsubishi relationship, but Proton combined its own nose and dashboard work with selected Mitsubishi lighting shapes. It was an exercise in local product development around licensed foundations, not a wholly clean-sheet car and not an untouched Lancer.

The launch line placed manual and three-speed automatic 1.5 GL models below the 1.6 XLi automatic. Keeping those transmissions separate matters: later injected GLi/GLSi export specifications are not safe substitutes for the 1993 Malaysian carburetted launch car.

Proton's own 2024 retrospective records 952,216 domestic Wira sales from May 1993 to June 2009. That total explains why the Wira became ordinary street furniture in Malaysia even though its export identity sometimes changed to Persona or the 400 Series.
