Renault Twizy 80

The Twizy put two seats in a line, squeezed the wheels to the corners and wrapped them in a tiny electric shell made for crowded city streets.

A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

Renault launched the Spanish-built Twizy across Europe in March 2012 as a new kind of urban electric vehicle. This page follows the 80 km/h Twizy 80 launch version, not the licence-friendly 45 km/h Twizy 45. Its narrow body, tandem seating and optional side doors made it closer to a weather-protected city quadricycle than a conventional small car.

Look a little closer.

At only about 1.2 metres wide, two Twizys can fit side-by-side in the space many normal cars need for one lane.

Photos show an example of the model or generation. The pictured vehicle’s year, equipment, or modifications can differ from the specification described here.

Two launch versions with different legal roles

The Twizy 80 makes 13 kW and is electronically limited to 80 km/h. The Twizy 45 uses a 4 kW motor and a 45 km/h limit so younger licence holders could drive it in some countries. Joyride keeps those outputs separate.

Designed around the city, not long trips

Renault quoted 100 km on the ECE-15 urban cycle for the 6.1 kWh launch battery. That laboratory city-cycle figure is not a promise of real-world range in every temperature, speed or driving style.
