More than a set of wheels.
The first Fabia debuted as a five-door hatchback at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 14 September 1999. Unlike the Felicia's deep reworking of an older car, the Fabia used the new PQ24 small-car platform and became Škoda's second entirely new model developed inside the Volkswagen Group. This packet fixes the identity to the 1.4 MPI 50 kW European hatchback; later estate, sedan, diesel RS and other generations remain separate.
Look a little closer.
The hatchback arrived first; the estate followed less than a year later and the sedan did not enter production until 2001.

A platform break from the Felicia
Škoda described the PQ24 as an advanced new small-car platform. That shared Group architecture helped make the Fabia a clean-sheet successor rather than another step of Favorit/Felicia evolution.

The 1999 launch identity is specifically the five-door hatchback. The estate arrived within the following year and the sedan in 2001, so later body images should not be treated as exact launch-car evidence.
