More than a set of wheels.
Toyota brought the Japanese-built Previa to the United States for the 1991 model year as a more market-suitable successor to its older Van. This page follows the rear-drive Deluxe with the standard five-speed manual. It does not borrow equipment or curb weight from the heavier LE All-Trac automatic, and it keeps the Japanese Estima and Australian Tarago names as related market versions rather than interchangeable trims.
Look a little closer.
The Previa's smooth, nearly symmetrical profile earned it the affectionate nickname 'egg van,' but the unusual shape also helped give passengers a huge 157.8 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats removed.

A mid-engine minivan with ordinary service points
Placing the engine under the front seats helped Toyota shorten the nose and open the cabin. The MIES accessory shaft moved frequently serviced items forward under the hood so owners did not need to uncover the whole engine for every check.

The 1991 brochure lists rear-wheel drive as standard, a five-speed manual on Deluxe and a four-speed automatic as optional. All-Trac four-wheel drive came only with the automatic, so those drivetrains and weights stay separate.
