More than a set of wheels.
The 940 and 960 arrived in autumn 1990. Volvo kept the basic 740 GL on sale alongside them for a time. This entry follows the Swedish 940 GL specification listed for model year 1991, with the B230FB four-cylinder engine, rather than assuming every export GL used the same engine.
Look a little closer.
Volvo made a three-point belt and adjustable head restraint for the centre rear passenger part of the new saloon’s safety story.

The centre seat received attention
The 940 and 960 introduced a three-point inertia-reel belt and adjustable head restraint at the middle rear seating position. Volvo also offered an integrated child seat in the rear centre armrest. These details show how the safety work extended beyond the driver’s seat.

The Swedish dealer table lists a B230FB engine and five-speed manual or four-speed automatic for the 1991 GL. It also records central locking, fog lights, auxiliary high beams and a chromed grille. That row anchors this profile to a market and model year rather than the entire 940 range.
