A matching completed auction sale has not been verified for this exact year, body, trim, engine, transmission and market.
Joyride shows this gap instead of substituting an asking price, unsold bid or mismatched special vehicle.
More than a set of wheels.
The C70 coupé appeared at the Paris Motor Show on 30 September 1996. Its development used the Volvo 850’s technical base, with TWR helping create and industrialise the new body. The 1997 T5 pairs that shape with the more powerful 2.3-litre engine; other markets also received smaller-capacity turbo versions.
Look a little closer.
The C70 project went from early studies to the first cars in only 30 months.

A new shape on a known base
Volvo and TWR developed a coupé and convertible in parallel using the 850’s underlying technology. Volvo set the technical foundation and desired character; TWR worked on design and production preparation. That shared base helped make a small-volume, expressive car practical to develop.

The period technical booklet gives B5234T3 a 2,319 cc capacity, an 81 mm bore and 90 mm stroke. Its 330 Nm torque plateau extends from 2,700 to 5,100 rpm. Identifying that engine avoids mixing in the 1,984 cc turbo variants or the lower-output 2.4-litre engine.
