A place in vehicle history

More than a set of wheels.

Giuseppe Merosi designed the 24 HP for the Portello works while its predecessor business was being reorganized. A.L.F.A.—Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili—was founded on June 24, 1910, and the 24 HP became its first model. Coachbuilders fitted open torpedo or closed limousine bodies, so surviving cars do not all look identical.

Look a little closer.

The model name said 24 HP, but the original engine actually produced about 42 horsepower—the name referred to a taxation or rating class.

The car came before the badge

Merosi began the design before A.L.F.A. was founded. When the new company formed in June 1910, the completed 24 HP gave it a serious, modern first product.

One chassis, several bodies

The strong pressed-steel frame was supplied to coachbuilders including Castagna, Schieppati, Sala and Bollani. They created both open and enclosed bodies for customers.
