Yamaha describes the Japan-market SR400 as one 43-year long-running model refined through frequent specification updates rather than a chain of named generations. The 1978 type 2H6 first release is delivered; later brakes, emissions systems, fuel injection, colours and special editions remain separate year/version coverage.
